Crawfordsville native designed memorial for victims of Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks
(CRAWFORDSVILLE, IN) The Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on New York City, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C. were unforgettable tragedies that affected the entire nation, but Hoosiers can now reflect on the event in a more tangible manner.
Greg Hess, a firefighter and paramedic with the Indianapolis Fire Department and 1975 Crawfordsville High School graduate, designed a monument that now stands at 421 W. Ohio St. in Indianapolis next to Fire Station 13 along the Indiana Central Canal. Hess said the memorial is a reminder of the lives lost on that day.
“We need to remember,” he said. “We need to remember that 3,000 people died that day.” Read more
